Members of my service VG Tips were in the money on Saturday when Secret Reprieve won the Welsh Grand National.
Members of VG Tips receive my detailed analysis and betting tips the day before racing. Odds of 4/1 were widely available for Secret Reprieve to win for Welsh trainer Evan Williams. I stressed that the horse was very well handicapped to win the 18 runner race and said Secret Reprieve would come out on top providing the horse had the sufficient stamina to last the distance of more than 3 miles and 6 furlongs. He certainly had that.
I also told them that the opponent he beat the previous time on a racecourse, The Two Amigos, would definitely last the distance, even on soft ground. The Two Amigos is a true stayer. Although 12 lengths split the pair the previous time the two horses met, I fancied these two would fight out a finish and offered up The Two Amigos as an 11/1 each way option for subscribers who like to back horses each way. As do I.
So it was that, in such a big field handicap, I tipped the first two past the post in what was a gruelling race but a fascinating one to watch. Another National for which I have tipped the winner. That has become a bit of a habit over the years.
I tipped the winner of the Aintree Grand National in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The race did not take place last year due to the pandemic. In the past ten years, I tipped five winners of the Scottish Grand National and Secret Reprieve was the third horse I have tipped to win the Welsh Grand National in the past five years.
