Like fine wine, Frankie Dettori has matured as a jockey. Incredible to think, he’s 48 now. Last weekend he rode two superb winners at the Breeders’ Cup event in America.
Enable created history by following up the win in the Prix de ‘Arc de Triomphe in France, by coming out on top in the Breeders’ Cup Turf for trainer John Gosden. He confirmed post race that Enable (below with Frankie) would stay in training next year.
That victory followed another great ride by Dettori. Arguably his delivery of Expert Eye – a former winner for members of VG Tips – to land the Breeders’ Cup Mile with a fine, late run was even better than that upon Enable. A superb ride by a man whose career looked to be on the wane a few years ago. Gosden is to thank for keeping the faith with Frankie and giving him a new lease of life in the saddle after the jockey had gone through difficult times.
Frankie Dettori continues to the best advert for flat racing, not only in the UK but also worldwide. The first jockey to win the Breeders’ Cup Mile and Turf in the same year.
Sir Michael Stoute has to be the most patient trainer of recent decades. The care he has taken with Expert Eye equals one excellent training performance. Stoute remains a master of his craft. Watch the Expert Eye race in full below.
