When you are at a racecourse, and if you’re lucky enough to witness a close finish to a top class race, you’ll find that the hairs on the back off your neck stand to attention.
That must have been the case on Saturday for those fortunate to watch Enable and Crystal Ocean fight out the finish to the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. A lifelong favourite race of mine.
I remained loyal to the amazing Enable and while odds on betting is not really for me, she was value for the win at odds of 8/15. It’s worth noting when you watch the race below not only does a ‘flu infested Frankie Dettori have the disadvantage of being drawn wide, but also that he does not resort to using the whip during that hard fought finish. It’s hands and heels.
James Doyle aboard Crystal Ocean, meanwhile, is using his whip as the fast improving horse gets up to, at one stage at least, head Enable. The mare fought back in the hands of in form Dettori to win by a neck. Enable’s 12th career win from 13 races.
It wasn’t the only close finish to a race at Ascot on Saturday. Subscribers to my long established selection service enjoyed cheering on my 10/1 NAP, Raising Sand, win a big field Class 2 handicap. Read all about that here and Watch Enable win yet again for us below.
