Last November I suggested to my members of VG Tips that they take the 14/1 then on offer about Defi Du Seuil for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. I put my money where my mouth was and placed an each way bet at those odds.
After winning the Clarence House Chase for us in emphatic fashion at Ascot and at value odds of 11/10, the Philip Hobbs trained Defi Du Seuil is now best price 9/4 to win at Cheltenham.
Jockey Barry Geraghty said: “It was dazzling and breathtaking. I love riding him. He’s not the biggest in the world but has so much scope”
One argument says he only beat ordinary opposition on Saturday, including the ever gallant and talented 12 year old Un De Sceaux. He’ll meet more dangerous opposition in March, possibly including Altior. But I am glad I took that 14/1 on ante-post terms prior to non runner no bet terms being offered.
There is always a risk doing that as anything can happen to a horse between now and the day of the race. There is always a chance that a horse doesn’t make it to Cheltenham, or is switched to a different race.
Right now all roads appear to lead to Cheltenham for Defi Du Seuil.
