It’s unlikely many reading this will ever be a jockey. It’s a tough job. A bit like being a tipster or punter, one minute you appear to be invincible, the best at the game. Only soon after for you to be called useless. There the similarity ends. I am full of admiration for those who place themselves in the saddle of thoroughbred racehorses and race at speeds many of us would only drive a car at.
The man of the moment is flat jockey Oisin Murphy and the below video offers you the opportunity to be in his seat, almost, as he rides Alcohol Free to victory in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood. Watch how Murphy ensures he keeps a former rival, Snow Lantern, on his inside and prevents the grey from getting out to have a clear run until such time as Oisin and Alcohol Free have run away to an impressive victory. Snow Lantern ran on late to take third place.
Here is both views of the race. The normal televised coverage and the bird’s eye view from the jockey camera worn by the talented Oisin Murphy.
