It all began well when both teams scored in the match between Spain and Holland. Nobody could have predicted the Dutch coming out on top to the tune of 5-1, but I did tell members to get on both teams to score at odds of 11/8.
In the hour before the England v Italy kicked off, bookies took loads of bets on England to win. Why? Was it their performance in the warm up game against Honduras that convinced such punters to part with their hard earned cash in such a reckless manner. Or was it simply a case of waving the St.George’s flag?
Call me unpatriotic if you wish, I don’t care about that. I only care for making money from the bookies and I tipped the following bets to members, and got on them myself.
Mario Balotelli to score anytime at odds of 5/2 with Bet365. Italy to win at 9/5 with a few bookies (23/10 was available via Boylesports an hour before kick off).
And, most profitable of all, I predicted the scorecast of 2-1 to Italy, which was a best price of 12/1 with BetVictor.
The price on Balotelli, who had scored plenty for Italy during the qualifying campaign, was a generous one. I expect the bookies will reduce those odds when he lines up for Italy against Uruguay and/or Costa Rica.
I never offer tips for every game. That would be foolish. Cherry picking some of the potentially better odds on offer in specific matches is the best route to profitable punting in the World Cup.
Had you put a tenner on those three bets in the Italy v England game alone, you’d be over £170 in profit. Not bad for a night’s work.
I was asked yesterday who I now fancy to lift the World Cup. I am in watch and learn mode right now. In terms of the games played, it is way too early to decide.
A year ago or more I had a bet on Germany to win this World Cup. But we have yet to see them play and, of course, European winners in South America competitions are as rare as Phil Neville using more than four words in a sentence!
So I shall take in the games and offer an outright winner suggestion later in proceedings. It won’t be England, Spain or Uruguay. That much I do know.
We shall win some. We shall lose some. That is the nature of punting. But we’ll win more than we lose and we’re already well ahead of the bookie.
