Validus went one better than the other selections at Wednesday’s racing. The Luca Cumani trained colt returned from over a year away from racing to win for members at an SP price of 14-1.
One member at the course got on at 25-1. A great end to a frustrating day.
For six other selections all came second. That’s what they call seconditus – big style! Quite incredible.
But the last each way selection of the day delivered thanks to a great ride from jockey Kirsty Milczarek and a tremendous training job by Cumani. It’s never easy to get one ready to win a race after such a long time away from a racecourse.
But the clues were there. This is what I said to members who pay just £10 a month when I e-mailed them the night before racing.
“One I will be watching out for is another course and distance winner – albeit a long time ago. We can have no idea how Validus will respond after a 396 day absence from racing but, each way backers take note, this Luca Cumani colt did come 5th in a much higher class race than this when last seen in October 2011.”
Every punter experiences days of seconditus. Not often, but they happen from time to time.
But it’s nice when you can spot one that is overpriced in the betting market.
And our saviour today, Validus, was precisely that at 14-1.
