The first was advised early and was a conservative, safety first 3/1 treble suggesting wins for Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United.
There was also an 8/1 double win on two players to score anytime. I expect Rickie Lambert and Frank Lampard to score often for Southampton and Chelsea respectively, just as they did for us last season. Some members got on that anytime to score double at 8/1 with Ladbrokes and a little less with some other bookies.
The other winning accas came via my Twitter feed and was one of my occasional ‘Free Sunday’ offers, available to all followers on Twitter. Wins for Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and GranadaCF in La Liga. The last named were overpriced to win at Osasuna at odds of 11/4.
So that 10/1 accumulator paid off with Paddy Power.
Stattoman (@VGTipsort on Twitter) keeps the records for my profit and loss and tells me that, for both accumulators and single bets, we are already nicely ahead for the football season that has only just begun.
Betting on football is a rollercoaster. There is little more agonising than an accumulator that goes down due to one team or one incident. On the opening day of the League season a 4 team acca went down simply due to Wolves not being able to score one goal. A 32/1 accumulator floundered for the sake of a goal. It happens.
But, over the course of a season, I always profit from betting on football.
I am being ever more selective this season. There may be fewer single bets offered than in past years. I am trying to target the right accas and single bets. Some weekends in the past, when I have offered the odds on several games, members got confused and were not sure which to bet on.
I understand that. I don’t suggest you bet on every tip. Read what I have to say about that match and make up your own mind if you fancy the odds on offer.
So let’s hope that less is more and we can take even more money from the bookies this season.
There’s more than one way to skin a bookie.
More and more people are betting on football. Bookies tell me they now take much more money on football than horse racing.
We will not win every week. Of course we won’t.
But the art of profitable punting over the course of a football season is to win more returns on the winning bets than we lose on the bets that fail to come off.
