Hands up at the back of class! Who was on the 300/1 winner at Leopardstown? No, me neither.

I’m glad I swerved that race as I was about to give Agitaire one more chance to win a race for me but that one was beaten on the line by a 300/1 outsider called He Knows No Fear.

Only my first fancy at the Irish racecourse won on Thursday. ANGEL PALM, at odds of 6/5, proving that the form of her very first race back in June really is worth trusting. That race has produced . . .

Sunday went well for me. I was delighted SPACE BLUES won the feature race in France. At last! A Group 1 win for the very likeable Godolphin owned Space Blues. Tipped when available at odds of 11/2, he won the Prix Maurice De Gheest Stakes at Deauville in good style and at SP odds of 4/1.

In Ireland, my 9/1 each way selection LUCKY VEGA won the Group 1 Phoenix Park Stakes and did so going away fast from the rest of the field. That was a very impressive win. I felt sorry . . .

  • No sooner had Arsenal won the FA Cup for me at odds of 14/1, the owners of the club disgrace themselves by making 55 employees redundant. The scouting staff, who have discovered so many good players going back years, to the likes of Cesc Fabregas, have been fired. Clearly the billionaire owner of the club is putting all his eggs in the basket of agents finding Arsenal the best players of the future.

This redundancy plan was clearly planned before the triumph at Wembley. Lots of office staff have been let go. I feel for them. Especially when they . . .

POLITICS can often be a dirty word but not today. Not after the one I told subscribers to put in their race tracker or notebooks after he finished second on debut, bolted up to win on Friday. SP odds of 11/10 represented value for a two and a quarter length win in my first chosen race at Sandown. Once again, Politics was running on well at the finish of the race today and I would imagine trainer Andrew Balding will step the colt up in distance and class next time out. One to keep on your side . . .

  • It seems like a lifetime ago when we last witnessed Champions League action.  It was actually 11th of March. That ill fated night when, incredibly, 3000 Atletico Madrid supporters were allowed to travel to Liverpool, despite the fact that Coronavirus was already prevalent in Madrid.

Atletico won 2-3 at Anfield, knocking out the cup holders. Liverpool must have wished that game had been called off.

It was late February when Manchester City had travelled to Madrid and won 1-2. Much has changed since then. Real Madrid have been in better form and won the La Liga title in . . .

I have been a tad slow lately in welcoming new members or thanking others for staying with me for another year.

Andy just returned to VG Tips and for one year. Luke has opted to join for one month. Ankur and Nicky, now seasoned VG Tips subscribers, have signed up for another year. I thank them all.

And also to Ankur for these kind words:- "This membership is the best decision I have taken ever, your analysis and foresightedness is the best. Recently, I placed a 8 fold multi from your soccer tips which proved to be a lottery . . .

It was two winners from three races selected on Monday. The NAP Frenetic lost, just, but those who took the early odds of 7/2 about MOUNTAIN PEAK did well because that selection won at a much shorter SP price.

But the last winner for me on Monday was, for me at least, the most pleasing. On the day odds of 15/2 became available for DHABYAH.

Here's what I told my subscribers why I chose that impressive 5/1 (SP) winner:- "Only five go to post. Only of them has yet to race . . .

  • ARSENAL WIN the FA Cup. My 14/1 tip back on the 3rd of January pays off. Although no Arsenal fan, I was obviously pleased to win that bet. Also pleased to see how delighted Mikel Arteta seemed to be when lifting the trophy

Too often these days the FA Cup is undervalued and some managers and coaches pay lip service to the tournament. Arteta, however, was clearly very happy to win the competition and ensure Arsenal qualify for the Europa League next season.

Doing so means his squad will play more matches next season. It's going . . .

Glorious weather. A fantastic racecourse. Some truly top quality races. What a shame that spectators could not attend one of the best Good Festivals I have ever watched.

There were star turns that I backed and brilliant performers that I didn't (but will next time). Battaash broke the racecourse record. Stradivarius was as imperious as ever. Mohaather was a very impressive winner of the Sussex Stakes and you'd have to be backing that one next time out.

I had 7 winners. A perfectly respectable total I am satisfied with. There was a time a few years ago when . . .
