  • Just when you think you have a handle on how certain football teams are doing, they spring surprises on you.

Last weekend, a Luton Town side fighting for their survival in the Championship, were at home against Reading. The home side, Luton, came into the game in confident form, being unbeaten since resumption, including a draw at top of the table Leeds.

Reading, meanwhile, had not won since resumption. They travelled to Luton and returned home with a 0-5 victory.

That defeat for Luton brought down my 6 teams to win accumulator. The other five teams won. But, as . . .

  • While all the attention this past week has been on Liverpool winning the Premier League - understandably so - I'm more engaged with the goings on in the Championship.

At the top, West Brom have been wobbling since the resumption of football. They should hold on to the second automatic promotion place and can settle their nerves if they win at Hillsborough this evening. But the buzzy Bees of Brentford are on their tail.

Brentford, a club that never rose above the old Division Three when, as a child, my Brentford supporting dad would take me to Griffin Park for home . . .

  • The first football tips after resumption saw my NAP bet on Watford to win at West Ham pay out at odds of 23/20. A two nil victory secured what could be the first of three successive victories for Wolves.

Watford ensured I got my stake back when equalising late against Leicester City. That's why I sometimes play safe with the Win/Draw No Bet market. If you think a team might win but are not convinced they will, back them to win but with the option that if the match ends in a draw, your stake is returned . . .

  • Football is back! No crowds. No atmosphere. But some things remain the same. Bad decisions. In the very first match on resumption of the Premier League, the system failed. Sheffield United scored a perfectly good goal but it was not given. The ball crossed the line, clearly. But no goal was given. In the year 2020 we still have a situation where this can happen. A disgrace.

The mini-season goes ahead and the matches are played in quick succession to try and get this season completed in the top two divisions. Clubs are able to use five substitutes and . . .

  • Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the FA Cup after Norwich City took them to extra time and then won a penalty shoot out. Another blow to Jose Mourinho. Further proof that he's about as suited to being manager of Spurs as UK Home Secretary Priti Patel would be to manning a Samaritans helpline.

I admire the approach of the Norwich manager who, despite his team staring relegation in the face, ensured the supporters saw the Canaries give it a right go. They were positive and were rewarded with having their name in the quarter final draw. And they . . .

  • Wembley Stadium was not sold out for the League Cup final. What an indictment on the greedy people who run the game. Both the FA and EFL. Manchester City supporters have lots of big games to attend and watching football in person these days is an expensive hobby.

With Wembley it's not simply a case of build it (in the wrong location) and they will come. Match tickets have to be priced at a level which the man and woman in the street can afford. I have no idea how any parent can afford to take children to watch . . .

  • It was good to see Manchester City come from behind and win their Champions League tie in Spain. Even better to see Sergio Ramos sent off for Real Madrid. The 26th time in his career that Ramos has seen red. It was a good decision by the ref. He not only saw the foul and saw that it was just outside the penalty box.

For more years than I care to recall, I have watched Ramos get away with anything short of murder when playing for Real Madrid in La Liga. He may have been sent off 26 times but . . .

  • Last weekend saw the following winning football tips:- Lyle Taylor to score anytime for Charlton at odds of 7/5.

There were wins for Cheltenham at Evens, Crewe at 1/2, Raith Rovers at 7/10, Both Teams to Score for the match between Swindon and Grimsby, at odds of 17/20. There was also a nice win via my tip for Sunderland to Win to Nil against Bristol Rovers at odds of 13/10 and I want to talk about that type of bet.

I was particularly pleased with that win because it was a way of making more . . .

  • It must have been a strange feeling for younger Liverpool supporters. Experiencing defeat. Atletico Madrid returned to doing what they used to do on a regular basis, defending as though they had 22 players and not 11, scoring an early goal and not letting the opposition get in behind the defence. A knack Atletico appeared to have lost of late. They will take the same approach when they travel to play the return leg at Anfield. I hope Liverpool win the second leg and progress. Not because I am supporter, I am not. But because I believe in positive, attacking . . .
