  • Stormy Clouds won for members at odds of 10/1 and 9/1. It reassuring that so many of them have learned how to read my analysis to gauge my confidence about any one selection.

I really fancied that Richard Hannon trained winner in the opening race on Thursday. Sometimes the form book does not lie. The third place finish behind our recent winner Mrs Danvers was a good piece of form and the drop in grade today ensured that Stormy Clouds won with something to spare.

It will look stormy at York on Friday. Heavy rain is forecast from . . .

  • Postponed made it six wins from the last six outings on Wednesday. The form of that race looks strong, with Highland Reel finishing well  in second place.

The 2016 Ebor meeting begins on Wednesday. At a time when trainers and owners are ever more choosy about where they send their horses, it is a credit to those who run York that so many top class horses are booked to appear at the course between Wednesday and Saturday.

I shall have selections for each day of the meeting, beginning on Wednesday.

  • The going conditions at York on Saturday could be crucial. At the time of writing on Friday afternoon the course has had 9mms of rain and, according to the Assistant Clerk of the Course, the going is Good.

The Met Office says that scattered showers are expected tonight and on Saturday and that some showery outbreaks could be "locally heavy." That sounds like a get out clause for weathermen!

It is important because there are horses set to compete at York who would relish soft conditions underfoot. Whether that is the case or not will depend on how much rainfall . . .
