On Friday Seven Heavens, available at 2/1 when I alerted you, did indeed prove to be a chip off the old block. The son of Frankel proved to be another winning newcomer from that sire. Frankel keeps producing winners. No surprise there.

Another son of Frankel races on Saturday. Cunco has raced twice so far and also won on debut.

Not the best day of racing at the royal meeting this week and not a good day of punting for me.

For all I suggested Kinema was the each way bet in the 5pm race, advised as such by men when available at odds of 12/1, the fact is I offered up only second place Elite Army . . .

  • Why is pedigree so important? That's what I am often asked. Why do I constantly mention how well bred certain horses are?

It's because pedigree is vital when assessing how well a young horse may do. It is by no means guaranteed that a colt or filly will prove to be every bit as good as one or both of his or her parents. After all, my mum had four boys and only one turned out to be Group class!

But the great Frankel (some say the greatest) has left his mark on racing. Already this flat season . . .
