I am sending out Saturday's selections just after my first on Friday has raced. And won! ISABELLA GILES, a 2/1 tip, won the Rockfel Stakes in good fashion and with something to spare. She could be winning a big race for fillies next season. Have her in your notebook or tracker.

I did watch the race in which I didn't offer a tip. A race reduced to four runners and one that Alpinista would have won had the jockey not gone for a gap, got blocked out of it, and the filly caught heels in . . .

LOST IN SPACE (a 5/2 NAP) and the well backed on the day LA BAROSSA were the winners on Thursday.

Toromona and Spirit of Bermuda were beaten into second while the final selection, First Winter, was very disappointing at Newmarket.

I will cut to the chase because valued subscriber Bob lives in Thailand where the time difference is six or seven hours ahead. He often finds himself receiving them at midnight his time and getting up to read my analysis at 6am. That's dedication Bob!

I am also getting on with it because today . . .

No joy in the Ayr Gold Cup last weekend, won by a very well backed by punters former winner for us, Nihaarr. But 6/4 tip ADDEYBB won the Class 1 Listed Doonside Stakes for us and Admirality, a 12/1 each way selection, was second in the Silver Cup, so returning each way backers some profit.

I tipped the first two home in the Group 3 fillies stakes. UMM KULTHUM, a 2/1 win only tip, justified confidence and won by a length at SP odds of 9/4. In second was Scarlet Bear . . .

Some racecourses have been so unlucky both before, during and after the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown. Perhaps none unluckier than the wonderful racecourse at Ayr.

Good people run the course and if it's not a virus that has seen them lose race meetings, it has been the weather. The Ayr Gold Cup meeting was wiped out by the weather in 2017. The sun shone down on the magnificent setting last year but, more recently, Ayr has lost further race meetings. The financial losses to all racecourses through nobody being able to attend meetings has been huge. Only recently, Doncaster lost . . .

A fine man who won many a race, lost out to his most deadly rival this week. Jockey Pat Smullen was a favourite of mine over the years. A winning jockey aboard several of those I have backed in past years but, much more importantly, a top professional who went about his job in a very diligent manner.

Not one to hog the camera or the limelight, Pat was so loved by those he worked for and with because he turned up on time, rode out the horses he was asked to ride out, offered up accurate and specific opinions . . .

Well that was a memorable weekend of racing. Memorable for all manner of reasons.

Having fired blanks on the first three days at the Doncaster meeting, I enjoyed two winners from three selections there on Saturday. CHINDIT at 15/8 and WICHITA at 7/2 did the business and that was pleasing to see after a tough week.

It would have been three from three had I not been so paranoid about the golden punting rule of never changing your mind. I did change my mind from my original each way selection, and did so to . . .

The racing on offer this weekend is top quality both in the UK, Ireland and France. Can you have too much of a good thing? Only when it all comes at the same time. I do wish racing could spread the load of Group class racing more evenly across the week. But that will never happen.

So it is that I have days like Friday and Saturday when my head is deep into form study for Group class races here, there and everywhere. Meetings that include several past winners for myself and VG Tips members. Winners that are often taking . . .

When a horse you tipped the last time out on the back of his two earlier victories, only for him to finish last of nine, goes out to win next time at odds of 40/1, you know it's not your day.

I could hardly believe my eyes when Ubettabelieveit won on Friday at such a big price. I did consider offering him as an each way option but he performed so badly last time out that I could not stick with him. Today he came out on top in a battle to the line with the favourite, Sacred . . .

Wednesday at Doncaster, when something over two thousand spectators were allowed on course, looked my ideal kind of racing day. The sun shone, those attending were nicely distanced from each other and drinks were brought to you, rather than having to push through a sea of drunk humanity to get to a beer stained bar. The only thing that would have let me down on the day would have been my bets.

What a shame that no sooner had the good people who run Doncaster racecourse put on a safe and enjoyable day of racing, than the plan to have . . .

No sooner had thousands of people set off to watch racing at Doncaster, as part of the government's test scheme to slowly return spectators to the sport, than it announced that, from next Monday, no groups of more than six people will be able to congregate in England. Go figure!

Of course, as was the case with the Cheltenham Festival in March, the news media and horse racing hating social media warriors will now pick on racing at Doncaster today, Wednesday, and possibly up to and including Saturday. It's a potential Public Relations disaster for racing once again . . .
