Only thirteen days to go until I am sending out my analysis and selections for the first day at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.

With the rain still falling, it's impossible to imagine anything other than the word 'soft' appearing somewhere in the going conditions for Tuesday March 10th.

The meeting will begin with the Supreme Novices' Hurdle for which Shiskin is the current 5/2 favourite. Asterion Forlonge (5/1), Chantry House (9/1) and Fiddleontheroof (8/1) are among the challengers.

The first day also includes the Arkle Chase, Ultima Handicap Chase, the Champion Hurdle, the Mares' Hurdle . . .

  • It was good to see Manchester City come from behind and win their Champions League tie in Spain. Even better to see Sergio Ramos sent off for Real Madrid. The 26th time in his career that Ramos has seen red. It was a good decision by the ref. He not only saw the foul and saw that it was just outside the penalty box.

For more years than I care to recall, I have watched Ramos get away with anything short of murder when playing for Real Madrid in La Liga. He may have been sent off 26 times but . . .

  • Last weekend saw the following winning football tips:- Lyle Taylor to score anytime for Charlton at odds of 7/5.

There were wins for Cheltenham at Evens, Crewe at 1/2, Raith Rovers at 7/10, Both Teams to Score for the match between Swindon and Grimsby, at odds of 17/20. There was also a nice win via my tip for Sunderland to Win to Nil against Bristol Rovers at odds of 13/10 and I want to talk about that type of bet.

I was particularly pleased with that win because it was a way of making more . . .

2 winners from 2 tips on Friday, following on from 4 from 4 on Wednesday. Don't expect 100% returns every day!

The reliable Christ in April was an 8/1 winning NAP for in the Devon National at Exeter. Winning by eight and a half lengths and with Belle Empress in third.

Over at Warwick, Grand Roi won as expected. 4/5 was the early price. 1/2 the past the post odds.

We are at that stage of the jumps season when many of those targeted for the Cheltenham Festival have now been wrapped in cotton wool and . . .

Firstly, thank you for the messages some of you sent regarding the four winners from four selections on Wednesday. I actually had to go out for the day so had no idea all four racing tips had won until I got back home and checked my e-mails and the Twitter comments via @betonsportstips

SOUTHFIELD HARVEST, NIGHT EDITION, ELFILE and ALLART all won for us.

I read that some of you did all manner of multiples to include three or all four of the winning horses, so ensuring some handsome returns. Well done everyone! There's . . .

  • It must have been a strange feeling for younger Liverpool supporters. Experiencing defeat. Atletico Madrid returned to doing what they used to do on a regular basis, defending as though they had 22 players and not 11, scoring an early goal and not letting the opposition get in behind the defence. A knack Atletico appeared to have lost of late. They will take the same approach when they travel to play the return leg at Anfield. I hope Liverpool win the second leg and progress. Not because I am supporter, I am not. But because I believe in positive, attacking . . .

Last Saturday saw myself and members win via Nordano, an 8/1 NAP at Ascot.
It’s always nice to back a horse that wins so easily, in this case by 16 lengths. That way you know that, just so long as the horse jumps that final fence, you are going to collect your winnings.

The clues were there. As I wrote to members the day before the race, Nordano had been beaten by much better horses than anything faced on Saturday and carrying a light weight is often a plus on testing ground.

The hardy Ramses de Teille was . . .

  • The last few days of football betting have gone rather well for myself and any VG Tips subscribers picking up on some of the winning football bets. You can read all about them via this link https://vgtips.co.uk/7-1-double-and-more-winning-football-tips/

The big football story of the past week has been UEFA banning Manchester City from Champions League participation for two years. Many column inches and numerous broadcast hours have been spent debating . . .

  • Cheltenham Festival ante-post analysis and fancies. Part 2. February 12th

    By on 15th February 2020

The Dublin Racing Festival, along with recent racing at Newbury, offered us punters plenty to think about when it comes to which horses we will all back at the Cheltenham Festival.

Opinions are divided in some quarters when it comes to certain races. Are the Irish horses better than the English, or the other way around?

It is possible to over analyse recent racing form. Some horses that did not deliver what was expected earlier this month will surely come on for that and improve at Cheltenham. Others may have won well but what did they beat? They'll face . . .
