**Minutes after I mailed out the below Newsletter to members only, the British Horse Racing Authority announced that the Newmarket May meeting and the June Derby meeting at Epsom would not take place. At least not on the scheduled dates. It was also announced that should Royal Ascot take place in July, it would be staged behind closed doors.

  • Cheltenham Festival 2021. To ‘win any race’advice and selections

    By on 31st March 2020

Do you believe in forward planning? Are you the most patient of punters? If so, then read on.

I am not a regular ante-post punter. Most of you know that by now. Not because I don't have the patience to wait for a bet to pay out (I'm still hopeful Pinatubo will get a chance to win the 2000 Guineas for me at odds of 10/1, albeit probably not at the start of May).

But some ante-post tips paid out for us at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. None of those bets were placed a year . . .

At the time of writing, almost twice the number of actual runners come the day are declared to race. So this can only be a post about those most likely to actually be at post on the day, including those I have had an eye on for some time.

  • Cheltenham Festival. 48 hour ante-post preview

    By on 12th March 2017

48 hours to go until the first roar fills the air at Prestbury Park, Cheltenham. A roar that tells you the Cheltenham Festival has begun and four days of the best National Hunt racing is ahead of us.

It looks as though I may have already won my first ante-post bet, and the racing has yet to begin. On December 30th I had a bet at odds of 13/8 on which race Vroum Vroum Mag would race in. I felt sure it would be the Mares' Hurdle and, this Sunday morning, trainer Willie Mullins has confirmed she will . . .

  • Cheltenham Festival Preview. Stayers Hurdle

    By on 28th February 2017

Two weeks today the roar will go up and the Cheltenham Festival of 2017 will begin. Yes, I am excited. Bring it on. There's more than enough low grade racing these days, so the better meetings must be savoured.

I'm already on weather watch. Daft, I know, this far ahead of time. But worth having half an eye on. The weather people say there is to be significant rainfall around Cheltenham in the coming days. How much falls we cannot know.

And that matters. Not least to the horse I have placed an each way ante-post bet . . .

  • Cheltenham Festival Preview. Triumph Hurdle.

    By on 27th February 2017

Sometimes it's the form of a horse that attracts a punter to them. Sometimes it's how they look. Or the promise they show at a young age. It's when all three align that I sit up and take note.

Members of my selection service first won backing Master Blueyes when I tipped the gelding each way at odds of around 10/1. That was when Dougie Costello rode him on the flat at York. Master Blueyes won that day in May 2016.

The 4 year grey has gone on to establish himself as a serious prospect over . . .
