Members of VG Tips backed a 28/1 winner on Saturday, one of three profitable punts on the day.
I tipped and backed Seventh Heaven, each way, in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh, writes Vernon Grant – the profitable punter. The filly duly won for members of my selection service.
The market leader was stablemate Even Song but I told members that, while it was the understandable favourite, the price of 8/11 was way too short for my liking. Even Song was well beaten.
My each way pick, Seventh Heaven, was widely available at 28/1 and 25/1 on Friday night. Although that particular Aiden O’Brien filly had previously been well beaten by second favourite Architecture, and another re-opposing stablemate, Somehow; I suggested that a small stakes each way play on Seventh Heaven – at such a big price – was a bet worth chancing. And so it proved.
I reminded members that while Seventh Heaven finished well behind Architecture in the English version of this race at Epsom, she had earlier beaten Architecture in a Lingfield trial. The margin was slim that day. But Seventh Heaven beat Architecture into second by a much bigger margin in Ireland on Saturday.
Indeed, the early bird backers did well on Saturday.
All three of my winners – tipped when priced at 28/1, 3/1 and 6/4 – came past the post at shorter odds.
If you are going to bet on any tip, why wait? Take the early price on Guaranteed Price terms. That’s why I get my tips to members the day before racing, so they can take advantage of the early prices.
Trainer O’Brien said of his winner: “Ryan (Moore) chose to ride Even Song so Seamie (Heffernan) got second pick. He chose to ride Seventh Heaven as he thought she would like the Curragh. He was spot on.
“She had been working nicely and she loved the good ground. We always thought she had the makings of a high class filly and we’ll consider sending her to the Yorkshire Oaks.”
The best price currently about Seventh Heaven to land that race at York in August is 8/1. But t’s too early to consider any bet in that race just yet. We cannot know what the ground conditions will be, nor the opposition she will face. The likes of Journey, Minding, Simple Verse and So Mi Dar currently have entries.
But I will be there on the Knavesmire for the Ebor meeting and will be reporting back to one and all.
But only paid up members will receive tips for that meeting, as they do for all the high grade race meetings staged in the UK and Ireland.
Come and join VG Tips. At the end of the year, you too will be in seventh heaven!
