You know the winter jumps season is approaching when race meetings are abandoned due to racecourses being waterlogged.
It can be an inconvenience to the larger courses but can be life and death to those racecourses that have fewer meetings throughout the year. In recent days both Salisbury and Ayr have lost fixtures due to too much rain.
Looking at the forecast for Ireland and the West of the UK on Friday, we could see other meetings called off. Chepstow must be at risk if the weather forecast I have seen is accurate.
