Watching racing today was not pleasant on the eye. Put simply, it was too darn hot!
Southwell racecourse cut short its card as the horses were too hot and suffering. Wise move. The welfare of the horses must come first in racing. Before anything else. Including us punters.
It was ludicrously hot at Sandown and the horses were struggling in the heat. I had to look away watching one race as it was plain to anyone that the runners were finding it very hard work racing on a day when, just down the road, the highest July temperature ever was . . .
