Unlike some punters, I have time and respect for the dour Scotsman Mark Johnston. A trainer based in North Yorkshire, he is not afraid to speak his mind.
It seems he has stirred a hornets nest by suggesting that betting should not be a part of the racing coverage in 2017 when ITV take over the contract to broadcast racing on terrestrial television.
The reaction has been damning. Bookies and punters seem united in telling Mark Johnston that, but for the betting industry, racing in the UK would be on its knees.
The fact is that many people only watch . . .
