Racing lost one of its more famous figures this past week. John McCririck was recognised by those who rarely watched racing. His appearance in front of camera from 1980 caught the attention of television viewers.
He was on the side of us punters and, both when in working newspapers and appearing on TV, he challenged some of the dubious practices of the big bookmaking companies.
