A new year of racing begins with the annual meeting at Prestbury Park, Cheltenham. Always a good meeting and sometimes offering clues about horses being aimed at the festival in March.
It is true that racing can go into what one bookie called "a funk" between new year and March. As we progress towards the festival, you will notice trainers keeping their best horses wrapped in cotton wool and saved for the festival itself.
But there are still plenty of good race meetings to come before then and we must keep our eyes peeled for performances that will offer us . . .
