I recall the first time I attended the May meeting on the Knavesmire at York Racecourse.
It was 1980 and I was a sports researcher at Yorkshire Television. The reporter was delayed in traffic and I found myself having to interview jockeys. Nothing prepared me for how quiet they can be and how, more often than not, male jockeys are men of few words.
Any interviewer will tell you that the nightmare scenario is when the person you are interviewing says little ot nothing more than 'Yes' and 'No.'
