So day one of the festival brought us an opening win for the Irish, a surprise 33/1 winner of the Arkle and an historic 6th win of the Mares' Hurdle for the admirable Quevega.
I will not live to see her like again. Perhaps nobody shall. An amazing mare and one that wiped the smile from the bookies faces today.
Earlier in the day, there was no doubt in my mind that the running on The New One would have won the Champion Hurdle but for earlier hitting the already fallen Our Conor.
