So that was that. Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival and Irish eyes were smiling.
Douvan and Faugheen proved to be worthy short priced winners. As did our own Un De Sceaux. For a second on the bend, I thought Faugheen might be beaten. But he displayed a marvellous turn of foot and jockey Ruby Walsh knew what he had beneath him. Despite a late jumping error, Faugheen went on to win with something to spare.
Time to salute the trainer Willie Mullins. To train four winners in a day, and have the 1-2-3 in one race, was . . .
