York has to be my favourite course when it comes to flat racing.
While Goodwood has the best backdrop, the Knavesmire at York produces a more true running. Good horses do well at York, regardless of where they hail from. Though always have in mind that Yorkshire based trainers do well here.
The Ebor meeting has long been a favourite of mine. I first worked there in 1980 and found myself interviewing jockey Steve Cauthen. He was so monosyllabic he made Ryan Moore seem like someone who cannot stop talking!
The people who run the course are true racing people . . .
