Haydock Park is notorious for putting on meetings come rain or shine. And it's often rain and heavy ground up there. If the clerk of the course says the going is heavy, the chances are it's a bog.
Down in Somerset - where bogs have been the norm the past few weeks - Wincanton racecourse will inspect at breakfast time on the day. With that meeting in doubt, I shall concentrate my attention at Haydock and, first up, Ascot.
