The rains came on Friday. At least at Sandown. And, as trainer John Gosden remarked, that changed everything.
Ground conditions are very important and the rainfall on Friday did for several favourites on the day.
Of course, it played into the hands of other horses who like a bit of cut underfoot.
None more so than Frankel's brother Noble Mission, which relished the ground and won by 9 lengths.
Western Hymn dug in on turf much softer than he had been used to so far and won for Gosden. The Derby is still one target for Western Hymn.
