If you ever wondered why it is worth the effort to back a horse with a bookie returning each way bets on the first four or five past the post, rather than those offering returns on only the first three, I give you Gilgamboa today.
Placed fourth and offered up by me as an each way bet at odds of 10/1, Gilgamboa carried top weight and that resulted in a fourth place finish. But I had placed my bet with a bookie offering returns on the first four, so that bet at least returned me profit on a thrilling . . .
