The weather looked smashing at Doncaster. Blue skies, drying ground, proper flat racing conditions I would suggest.
Well, apart from this growing obsession with watering courses. I am on the side of the trainers who say courses should not be watered at this stage of the season. That if the going becomes Good to Firm, that is what it should be allowed to be.
Of course, other trainers will not send their horses to a meeting if the ground is too firm and that is their prerogative. But I was disappointed to hear trainer Roger Varian say that he might . . .
