Only Midnight Velvet returned a little profit on a miserable day of punting on Thursday. Poor quality racing equals poor quality returns for the majority of punters who have to understand that at such meetings we are dealings with the worst type of thoroughbred racehorse, namely the inconsistent ones.
Run these races again day after day and you'll likely get a different outcome each time. I'm always happy for the owners of the winning horses - after all, they put plenty of money into their care - but for punters such race meetings can be a minefield.
