Mark Johnston and John Gosden trained winners at Newmarket in July. No surprise there then. The two men usually do well very with their string at the July meeting.
But there were surprises.
Gosden played down the chances of his runner in the July Stakes, saying that he didn't mind Frankie Dettori had instead chosen to ride Eltezam for Richard Hannon. After all, Gosden didn't expect Shalaa to beat that one or some of the others. But win that one did, and at odds of 16/1.
Then we saw the outsider of the field of 8 in . . .
