Thanks for the messages regarding the 20-1 winning tip on Monday. I am glad to hear many of you were on each way. Algar Lad won well and is one to watch out for in the future.
Why did I pick the only newcomer in a field of 8 runners? Trainer, jockey and - most importantly of all - the pedigree. Algar Lad was related to two speedy types who had won better races than the 4.15 at Musselburgh in which Algar Lad ran.
You can never know how a horse will react on first run. Not even the trainers . . .
