So, as forecast, the rains came. And, in many parts of the UK, they came in large quantity.
The going at that notoriously untrustworthy course, Haydock Park, went from Good to Firm last night, through Good to Soft and on to soft on Friday afternoon.
Some of you will recall some months ago that we got caught with our trousers down when such a sudden change occurred at that same course. Suddenly horses that like firm ground don't like what's under them, while the mudlarks relish the new conditions.
