Mattmu wins for members of VG Tips at 25/1

Mattmu wins for members at odds of 25/1

VG Tips members go collect! Those backing my big price winner of the feature race of the day at the garden racecourse of Ripon, came up smelling of roses.

For many, it was a blooming lovely day of profitable punting!

On Saturday I offered members of my selections service five races to focus on. Three selections won while another each way tip was placed at odds of 10/1.

The undoubted star of the day was Mattmu – a 25/1 winner for members of VG Tips.

I was so pleased my hunch about that one was proved right. The clues were there. As ever, I passed them on to my lovely and loyal subscribers. I read some analysis on the At the Races website which dismissed out of hand the chances of Mattmu even being involved in the finish. I disagreed.

VG Tips members had won backing Mattmu in the past, but a long time ago. His return to racing last month, after a lengthy absence, did not instil confidence. But crucially, for me at least, he was one of few taking part in the Class 2 handicap, the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon, which was dropping down in class compared to the majority of his racing these past couple of years or more.

Here is what I told members of VG Tips the day before the race:- “Earlier this month he returned from a whopping 413 day absence and finished fourth of four runners, beaten 21 lengths. But a horse that was finishing third in a Group 3 race in April of 2016 has been dropped 8 pounds for that woeful last outing. That’s his lowest handicap mark since 2014 – the year he won for us more than once. He may be past it, and he does appear to prefer going with the word ‘soft ‘ in its description. But, at odds of 25/1, Mattmu is tempting me. Between October 2014 and June of 2016 he only raced in Listed or Group class company. In April of 2016 he was beaten only a neck by subsequent Group 2 and Group 3 winner, Magical Memory.

If fit after that last race which came more than a year after the previous one, and if not simply past his best, Mattmu could cause an upset.”

Mattmu hugged the rail on the far side and won going away from the fast finishing, and mentioned in my analysis, Jamie Spencer ride aboard Shanghai Glory.

It was good to hear back on Twitter (@betonsportstips) from happy members who backed Mattmu.

But I confess to being disappointed that nobody has so far taken up the cut price annual membership offer of only £149 for 12 months of racing and football analysis and tips. After all, £5 each way on Mattmu would have paid for that.

My special one year offer covers the best race meetings and the entire football season (plus the World Cup tips for 2018).

The next racing tips for members are for one of my favourite race meetings, the one on the Knavesmire at York that looks like being a cracker. That begins on Wednesday August 23rd. Members will receive my detailed analysis for that meeting, along with my selections, on Tuesday.

So come and join VG Tips now. For one month or for the year. It is the home for profitable punters.
