Mad as a hatter not to back Luton Town

Mad as a hatter not to back Luton Town

At a time when football results can be more unpredictable than ever, it’s always good to have a reliable football team on the side of us punters.

Luton Town once again won for members of VG Tips. They were my NAP bet to win at Fleetwood Town at nice odds of 23/20.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover the bookies had the so called Hatters at odds against. Yes, they were playing a fair side away from home, but I had no doubt the League 1 leaders would win for us once again. They duly did, 1-2.

Luton Town set a new club record. 20 successive league games without defeat. With that in mind, you’d be mad not to back the Hatters.

Well done to Luton legend Mick Harford and his backroom staff for the almost seamless transition when the previous manager foolishly left for Stoke City. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, as the former managers of Luton and Brentford are discovering.

Harford, who I used to deal with when I produced the club videos for Chelsea during the 1992-93 season, celebrated his 60th birthday this month. Luton sitting top of the league, six points clear of second place Barnsley and eleven points apart from third placed Portsmouth, is the best present he could wish for.

Pre-season, I wasn’t convinced Luton Town would be promoted for the second successive season and they began the campaign in unconvincing form. Once they found their feet in League 1, they’ve proved to be the best team in the division. They’ll be promoted come May. Probably as Champions.
