Le Beau Bai dies
Le Beau Bai was put down at the stables of Richard Lee

The late Le Beau Bai

Le Beau Bai, winner of the 2011 Welsh National has died.

He missed taking place in the race again last month after suffering an injury during a routine piece of work, suffering what was then believed to be a high hind limb injury.

The stable of Richard Lee is said to be devastated at the loss of the ten year old gelding which was bred in France and owned by the Glass Half Full syndicate, including Richard Hartley.

Le Beau Bai won at Ffos Las last November but, later that month, was a distant and disappointing 9th in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle at Newbury.

The injury was detected to be a broken pelvis, which is always very difficult to overcome. His recovery suffered a setback this week.

He was put down this morning, Friday.

If Twitter is anything to go by, I am far from alone in being saddened at this news. We shall all miss the mud loving Le Beau Bai.
