Stablemates Kauto Star and Big Buck’s may well both make the long trip to Haydock Park on Betfair Chase day, November 24th.
One may run, that’s Big Buck’s. One will definitely parade, that’s Kauto Star. The now retired people’s favourite of racing, who won the Betfair Chase four times, is the star attraction for the day. Owner Clive Smith and trainer Paul Nicholls will be in attendance and the crowds are sure to flock to Haydock to see Kauto Star one last time, and to see some great racing.
Nicholls has entered the high class Big Buck’s into the Fixed Brush Handicap Hurdle. He said: “It is a tentative entry. It’s a very valuable race but money isn’t everything. We’ll do what’s best for the horse.”
So Big Buck’s could still make his seasonal reappearance at the usual venue, Newbury, for the Long Distance Hurdle later this month. That decision will be made soon.
One thing is for sure. Haydock will stage a great two day meeting for the Betfair Chase on November 23-24. Many top class horses will race. But there will only be one star in attendance.
And I shall be there to say goodbye to my favourite steeplechaser.
