I may call Manchester City star Yaya Toure and beg his forgiveness. Or, thinking carefully about this, I may contact his agent and tell him to go forth an multiply!
How did it come to this? How did the once great game of English football allow someone called Dimitry Seluk (pictured above in Miami Vice style) to dictate who plays the game in the country, and who does not?
Seluk is the agent for Toure. He has said that his client feels “disrespected” by Manchester City.
Here is what this particular leech (aka agent) has said: “Yaya is so upset he’s thinking of leaving City. There are a number of things that have happened that have left Yaya feeling bitterly upset. He must concentrate on the World Cup now. But City have treated him with disrespect and have really hurt him.”
Seluk added: “They don’t know that money can’t buy relationships – no Sheikh can buy a relationship. This isn’t about money or a new contract – it’s about human relationships and City have shown they don’t respect him. I repeat, this is not about money. In fact, he would take less to return to Barcelona.”
Now Seluk has previous form. He has done this sort of thing before. Indeed, he was at it only 12 months ago. It is contract renegotiation time and Toure holds all the cards. After all, would Manchester City have won the Premier League without Toure? I doubt it.
Here is Seluk again: “What happened at his birthday meant the club don’t care about him. It was proof. They can say whatever they want, ‘Oh we like him but we forgot’.
“Forgot? About Yaya? The player who helped you to be two-times Premier League champions? The guy who helped you win the FA Cup and the League Cup?
“His birthday can be on a normal day and, in a normal team, his team-mates and club would at least give him good wishes.
“But when you win the title on May 11, a day later you go to Abu Dhabi and on May 13 you have a big party to celebrate the title and nobody comes to Yaya to say, ‘Happy birthday’, what more do you want?”
Odd then that Nicola McCarthy, who interviews players for the Manchester City TV station, posted the below photo of a half consumed birthday cake and tweeted: “Enjoying some of Yaya’s birthday cake as we finish off Today on Tour!”
Surely Yaya Toure will be embarrassed by the comments made by his agent. Or will he be patting him on the back and congratulation him on a job well done?
As a Barcelona fan, I would be delighted should he return to the club. But the English game would be poorer without his undisputed skills.
It would, however, be richer without his agent.
