Glorious Goodwood a target for members of VG Tips

Goodwood can be glorious for punters

The first week in August sees some of the best flat racing of the season take place in what must surely be the most picturesque surroundings of any summer setting for racing.

The Sussex countryside provides the ideal backdrop for racing at Goodwood, or ‘Glorious Goodwood’ as it is known. I have been to this meeting several times over the years and it is indeed glorious. When it comes to going racing, this feature meeting is almost as good as it gets down south.

The racing is of the highest quality and that makes finding the winners all the more of a challenge. But I love that. After all these years, I still enjoy grappling with races that are stacked full of potential winners. For myself and for those who subscribe to my selection service on a monthly or annual basis.

The first day of the Goodwood meeting is on Tuesday and includes the Lennox Stakes, the Vintage Stakes and the Goodwood Cup. On Wednesday we have the Sussex Stakes, which promises to be a cracker this year. Later next week we can look forward to races such as the Nassau Stakes and the Stewards’ Cup.

Last year we agonised as my Ribchester and Dubka were each beaten by the minor margin of a neck. Painful. But 15/8 tip Winter won the Nassau Stakes for us and on the same day my 11/2 NAP called Billesdon Brook won the Class 2 Nursery at SP odds of only 10/3.

I am already studying race form and, of course, the Met Office weather forecast. As of Monday the official going is Good, Good to Firm in places. The heaviest rain has not fallen in this part of Sussex and forecasters say hot weather will return later in the week. Come Friday, the going could be Good to Firm.

I am keeping my options open right now, going through the intended runners to remind myself of which horses prefer which type of ground conditions. I always have an eye out for a contender that has won on all types of going. A horse that does not care if it is firm or soft underfoot is always good news to a punter when the weather changes so dramatically.

If you want my analysis of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, and if you wish to receive my tips each night the day before racing, then now is the time to sign up. The discounted annual membership offer ends on August 1st.

That will be of particular interest to those who like to bet on football. Not just because I offer football tips all season long but also because if you join before a ball is kicked, then you will receive my pre-season analysis and predictions for the forthcoming English season. Which teams I fancy for promotion and relegation in all four English leagues.

This time last year I was telling members that I was backing Sunderland for a second successive relegation at odds of 12/1. That paid off in May. My forecasts for the new season will be mailed out soon after the pre-season transfer window closes on August 9th, but my research is already ongoing. It’s another busy weekend for me.

I manage the care home for fellow profitable punters. I offer them advice, care, congratulations and, when needed, sympathy. But no tea. I draw the line at serving them tea!
