Those clever members who, like me, take an early price on a selection were glad they did so on Thursday.

Dream Destination was available at 6/1 when I notified members that I fancied that one to beat the then favourite in a race at Sandown Park. 6/1 was overpriced.

Here’s what I told members of VG TIPS on Wednesday evening: “Cosmopolitan Girl will be all the rage here and the likely favourite. Second last time out, the winner that day was thrown into a Group class race next time out (without any luck). Cosmopolitan Girl races from 5 pounds less than my selection, which is an advanatge.

“But I shall take here on with Dream Destination. Second on debut he had no chance of beating the Richard Hannon hotpot winner called Nisser (which now has Group class race entries).”

Clearly, come the day, I was not alone in thinking the market had got the odds wrong. By the time Dream Destination won for members, the SP price was only 5/2.

Further proof that if you decide to bet on any particular horse, there really is no point in waiting. Use a bookie offering Guaranteed Price terms.

Two other winners on Thursday also won at shorter prices than were available when I alerted members.

I took the 6/1 on Dream Destination with Bet Victor. And I was very glad I did.
