The going conditions at York on Saturday could be crucial. At the time of writing on Friday afternoon the course has had 9mms of rain and, according to the Assistant Clerk of the Course, the going is Good.
The Met Office says that scattered showers are expected tonight and on Saturday and that some showery outbreaks could be "locally heavy." That sounds like a get out clause for weathermen!
It is important because there are horses set to compete at York who would relish soft conditions underfoot. Whether that is the case or not will depend on how much rainfall . . .
