Alan Biggs has covered football as a reporter for newspapers, TV and radio for decades.
Although South Yorkshire is his home patch, life as a freelance football reporter takes you all over the country these days. Alan knows the motorway service stations of the UK every bit as well as he knows the player history of Sheffield Wednesday, or the honours won by Chesterfield football club (here’s a clue: there’s more motorway services!).
Alan has been present for some of the biggest football games of recent years, interviewed some of the more memorable managers in the game and had a run in or two with some football chairmen.
His book ‘Confessions of a Football Reporter’ is a real page turner. I read it in one coach journey up the M1.
It speeds along – which is more than can be said for the coach I was on.
Here I talk to Alan about the book and his life working in the press boxes of football grounds up and down the country
