Cheltenham Festival ends with a 50/1 winner for members of VG Tips

INDEFATIGABLE (pictured above) was the magnificent 7th winner for members of VG Tips at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. Tipped to members the day before racing when widely available at odds of 50/1 and 40/1, the mare won the final race of the festival at SP odds of 25/1 having been well backed by connections in the minutes before the race began. They knew. As did I when I alerted subscribers to my selections service of her previous form at Cheltenham.

Here is an excerpt from the analysis they received 24 hours before the race:- “When this one next raced at Cheltenham, she finished second behind one of our most impressive winners this week, Dame De Compagnie. Indefatigable has raced at Cheltenham three times, winning once and finishing second and fifth the other times. Those three races were over a further distance but they were either of the same class as this one or higher class. When she was fifth in a Class 1 Grade 2 Mares’ Novices Hurdle at the festival last year, not only did she have Concertista and Black Tears (runner up in the Coral Cup earlier this week) in front of her; she also had Champion Hurdle winner Epatante a good distance behind in fifth.  I think Indefatigable may be another one priced too big to ignore. She is my final bet in the final race of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.”

The final day of the festival had begun with a horror show. When my ante-post 4/1 tip for the Triumph Hurdle, Goshen, got his legs stuck together after jumping the final hurdle and when miles clear of the high class opposition. The winning post was in sight. But that bit of bad luck at the last obstacle led to jockey Jamie Moore being shipped out of the saddle. I fell off my chair in shock. I was gutted, as were all punters who backed Goshen into favouritism. But none of us were as upset as Jamie Moore.

The sixth winner of the festival for us came in the big one, the Cheltenham Gold Cup. AL BOUM PHOTO my 4/1 ante-post tip to win the feature race, was still available at odds of 10/3 the night before racing. He became the first horse to win back-to-back Gold Cups since Best Mate in 2003. Ridden by an ecstatic Paul Townend, the lightly raced Al Boum Photo held off challenges from Santini and Lostintranslation. A very pleasing victory.

Other winners for members of VG Tips were:- DAME DE COMPAGNIE 10/1 (ante-post NAP), SIMPLY THE BETTS 4/1 (NAP), CHAMP at odds of 7/2, MIN 11/4 and ENVOI ALLEN 5/4 (ante-post).

7 winners at the hugely competitive Cheltenham Festival is a very satisfactory return. The same total as in 2019. Along with 8 each way tips that were placed in the frame.

10/1 winner for VG Tips. Dame De Compagnie

My service tries to cater for different punting tastes. Those happy to back win only, perhaps via a shorter priced favourite along with those who, like me, are always on the lookout for some value in the betting market and/or an each way tip at a big price that could return some placed profit or, at the very least, return your stake safely to you. Last year there were 7 such each way placed tips. This year the total was 8.

On that front, Black Tears 16/1, Oldgrangewood 14/1, Fitzhenry 10/1, The Storyteller 6/1, Staker Wallace at 15/2, Cilaos Emery 15/2, Lord Du Mesnil 7/1 and Abacadabras 13/2.

So another year of decent returns at the Cheltenham Festival. None more so than in the very last race. A winning bet that had me jumping for joy and clearly, from the messages I have received from those who also backed Indefatigable at a big price, they were very happy. Which always pleases me.
