Özil wastes no time assisting Arsenal

Why should I follow you on Twitter? (@betonsportstips) That’s what some members of my selections service ask.

Well, Saturday was a day when to do so would have been profitable. I had managed to find a bookie offering odds for Mesut Özil to assist a goal for Arsenal in their game at Sunderland.

Boylesports offered 11/4 for him to assist any goal and 15/2 for him to assist Arsenal’s first goal. My money went straight down on both. After all, Özil has a great record of assists in European football and, following his expensive move from Real Madrid, he was always going to be ready for his debut in a Gunners shirt.

Some members, and other followers of mine on Twitter, also took those generous odds and we didn’t have long to wait to be in the money. Within 11 minutes of the game starting, Özil had provided the pass that saw Olivier Giroud open the scoring for Arsenal in their 3-1 victory.

It’s always nice to win a football bet that early on a match day.

From time to time I offer FREE TIPS to all via the homepage of this website.

At the weekend one such tip was for Arsenal to score in both halves at Sunderland, the odds of 28/17 or 13/8 were available. Some followers went one further and got on Arsenal to ‘win both halves’ at odds of 3/1.

Many members of VG TIPS were on the 5/1 four teams to win accumulator. Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Derby and Tottenham all won, so ensuring another football accumulator paid off this season.

And we were just one team away from the midweek/weekend 7 teams to win acca also paying off, this time at accumulative odds of 12/1.

By the time Chelsea kicked off at Everton, the four countries tipped to win their midweek World Cup qualifiers had done just that. And Manchester United and Arsenal had won their Premier League games on Saturday.

All that was required was for Chelsea to beat Everton. Surely they would not slip up?

Then I saw the starting 11 named by Jose Mourinho and I began to worry.

When Mourinho failed to get the man he wanted, Wayne Rooney, he settled for the 32 year old Cameroon born striker Samue Eto’o. On Saturday Jose gave him his first start.

Now Eto’o has had a glorious career. But ‘had’ is the right word. He’ll get a few goals for Chelsea, but he is hardly likely to be a 20 goal a season man these days. I guess Mourinho has brought him in as a stop gap measure until he does manage to buy Rooney, or another potent striker.

The starting 11 for Chelsea at Goodison Park meant that the likes of Frank Lampard were left on the bench. I presume Mourinho thought those players who performed for their countries in midweek would not be up to 90 minutes on Saturday.

Chelsea fans were surprised at the team that started the match against Everton and they are disturbed at how Juan Mata, the best player at Chelsea last season, has so far been treated by his new manager.

Of course, in being annoyed at how Chelsea lined up on Merseyside, I am talking through my pocket and those of the members who were just waiting to collect on a 12/1 accumulator.

I’m not about to second guess the best man manager in football, Jose Mourinho.

But I may be dropping him a line this week. Asking him to send me £120.

I offered 14 single bets at the weekend. I tipped the 14 teams to win. Not one of them lost. 9 won, the others drew.

Don’t forget that on some match days bets come to mind late on. That can be because a bookie has left it late to price up a possibility, such as the Özil assist. In those situations time does not allow me to e-mail all members. So it is that I tweet suggested bets for people to consider.

So be sure to follow me on Twitter.

The football season so far has been a profitable one for myself and members.
