It was an eventful week at Gloorious Goodwood in 2021.
Day 5 went the best for me and members of VG Tips when I offered up four winning tips from five races selected on the Friday.
Despite a farcical start to the first race on Friday, CALLING THE WIND, a 12/1 selection from me, won in the hands of jockey Pat Dobbs and for his long time friend, the trainer Richard Hughes.
Next up was the mighty BAAEED which, at 4/6 yesterday and the likes of 8/15 earlier on the day, turned out to be a value price winner for odds on backers.
MAYDANNY was our third winner from three races. The SP odds of 8/1 were generous for the Mark Johnston trained winner ridden by Jim Crowley.
Crowley had no joy on Battaash in the next and the four time winner of that very race has now been retired. My Dragon Symbol was second but the winner was the very impressive French raider, Suesa. Watch out for that one at York in mid August and when racing at home in France later in the year.
My next pick Mogul was declared a non runner but jockey Ryan Moore hung around to win for us upon my fourth winner of the day. The Queen owned WINK OF AN EYE, 7/2 when selected, came past the post in front at SP odds of 11/4.
You can watch all of Friday’s action at Goodwood below. Including the start of that first race where stalls were not used and the likes of Smart Champion and the reluctant to race Just Hubert were left at the back of the field.
