The jumps season began to build nicely last week. And between Tuesday and bonus Sunday we had 21 winners, 10 of those coming over a busy weekend of racing.
The Open meeting at Cheltenham was its usual spectacular self and saw some thrilling finishes to races and some stand out performances by the likes of Dynaste and Al Ferof. There wasn’t another 20-1 winner as we had enjoyed the previous weekend but, as I always tell members, profit is profit. It doesn’t matter what shape or size it comes in. Just so long as you make profit.
I think the results the past few days perfectly highlight how varied winning bets can be. Over in Ireland on Sunday I had forewarned members that it would be a day for favourites, and the majority of them won. Yes, the odds on the selections there were short. But members who put them in a win accumulator got some nice returns.
And Al Ferof was a wonderful winning Nap bet for us at odds of 8-1. I told members that this one was the each way bet of the day. And so it proved.
Al Ferof became the first winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase for trainer Paul Nicholls. But not my first winner in this race over the years. It has always been a lucky race for me as a punter.
