  • So here we are. At the end of the football season, both domestically and on the European front. But we have the World Cup to keep us company from June 14 for one month.

It's not been the best football season for me on the betting front. Why? Because unless you were a punter deliberately backing the outsider in each match, the chances are you lost. The 2017/18 English domestic season was the most unpredictable I can ever remember.

  • So the deed is done. Cautious Carlos Carvalhal has paid the price for not not playing a proven goalscorer in Tammy Abraham and for reverting to type. For doing what he did previously at Sheffield Wednesday and trying to win football matches while playing, at most, one man up front. Why did he do it again? I don't know. Did he learn nothing from the meek manner in which his Wednesday said lost the Championship play off semi-final to Huddersfield? Clearly not.

    No, not me either.

I have never known a football season like this past one. It has been the most extraordianry, unpredictable one that I can remember.

This past weekend alone, in addition to that amazing result in Manchester, we saw relegated Sunderland beat Champions Wolves 3-0 and Cardiff only manage to draw 0-0 at home against a poor Reading side. Not that it prevented Cardiff being . . .

  • I don't envy those football supporters who face a nervous weekend.

I'd much rather settle for mid table mediocrity than be involved in a relegation battle.

It's horrible, as a fan, to go into the last game of the season needing a point or three for your team to stay up. Or worse, you rely on the Chinese whispers coming at you from all directions in the crowd. The number of . . .
