  • International games in midweek did deliver me one very nice win. I took the price of 10/3 offered by William Hill about the Republic of Ireland winning in Austria.

    Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane have continued to improve the Irish squad. They are a much better side than the one I saw play live a couple of years ago.

  • England play Scotland on Friday night. A match that has always had special meaning for supporters of both countries . I was there - at the old Wembley - when Scottish fans tore down the goalposts and swung from the crossbar.

  • So here we are, at the last 16 stage. It's been an interesting tournament and one that is hotting up. The 3-3 draw between Hungary and Portugal has been the most lively game so far. Hungary have surprised many people and it's great that Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England are through to the last 16.

    Portugal not going all out for a win against Hungary, and Iceland scoring an injury time winner in their game, ensured that England will no play the smallest nation at the tournament, Iceland.

    Perhaps this is a chance . . .
