  • Midweek winning football tips included:- Lucas Joao to score anytime for Blackburn at odds of 14/5. Southend to win at Coventry at a generous price of 13/10. Monaco win at 33/20. Accrington Stanley win at 4/6 and Juventus win at 7/10.

As I write we have the latest managerial sacking. Sorry, I mean departure by "mutual consent." What a nonsensical phrase.

Chairman to manager: "You're fired. Here's your compensation, now bugger off."

Manager: "OK, thanks very much. Tara."

Steve Gibson, one of the more responsible football club owners, will have a new manager . . .

  • Did you see that Barcelona comeback against PSG? Or did you go to bed thinking the game was over?

I am glad I stayed up, even when PSG scored an away goal that seemed to kill off the match. It didn't. A passionate fightback by Barcelona saw them secure the most astonishing victory of this season. Some classic Luis Suarez play acting, and two very dubious penalties helped Barcelona to an improbable aggregate victory. Neymar was fantastic for Barcelona and Messi as influential as ever. Strange how Barcelona had been inconsistent - at least by their own high standards - in . . .

  • Luck plays a part in the life of any punter. Good and bad.

My 7/1 midweek treble paid off for members. The bet saw Stevenage and Bury win for us, along with both teams scoring in the match between Brighton and Newcastle.

Newcastle battered Brighton in the second half of the match in which they were trailing 1-0 with 80 minutes on the clock. Newcastle won but did so via one of the luckiest goals you'll ever see.

It was a nice little midweek earner for me and members. I played safe in midweek. I'm not . . .

  • So Arsenal fans now want the head of Arsene Wenger on a plate. And, come May, they'll probably get their wish. The woeful capitulation against Bayern Munich in midweek appeared to prove that the manager has run out of ideas and that some of the players have downed tools.

I don't know why fans are surprised about Mesut Ozil. He also had a very good first season at Real Madrid, but faded the longer he was at that club. History has repeated itself at Arsenal. Ozil had the best goal assist record when he was at Real Madrid . . .

  • Football is as fickle as I have ever known it. And that includes supporters.

Arsenal fans continue to do their utmost to remove Arsene Wenger from power. I hope I live long enough to see them regret his departure. Fans of those clubs who have changed their manager too often, too quickly, know to be careful what you wish for.

There are Arsenal fans who would love to have George Graham back in charge of proceedings. They'd rather watch boring 1-0 victories than suffer the unpredictable roller coaster ride that comes with watching talented, if fragile footballers wearing . . .

  • There is one advantage to being poorly. I wasn't able to be so busy that I could not watch the game between Chelsea and Liverpool. I enjoyed it.

A high tempo match in which both sides had their periods of domination. Had Diego Costa converted his penalty my bet on Chelsea to win at 2/1 would have paid off. But, no matter. Liverpool earned their point.

A draw was fine for Chelsea. If they beat Arsenal at home this weekend, I think the Premier League trophy may as well be handed to the Blues.

    When you are betting . . .
