So the Premier League is back. Lots of football fans are excited. And punters are set to get busy backing players to score first goals or anytime, red cards to be shown, both teams to score and win or draw bets.
Bookies now take more money on football than on horse racing. The football is well marketed by bookies for that reason.
This Premier League season sees yet more new foreign additions to teams, while some home grown players have moved clubs.
Frank Lampard will make rare appearances for Manchester City but I fear my many years of profitable punting via betting on him to score in games is now a thing of the past. And Rickie Lambert’s move from Southampton to Liverpool is also a concern for me. Why? Because backing him to score anytime for the Saints was a profitable bet last season, not least because he took the penalties for Southampton. Somehow I cannot see him having that responsibility when playing alongside Steven Gerrard. Perhaps when Gerrard is out injured, Lambert may take the spot kicks.
Diego Costa to score for Chelsea will no doubt be a popular bet most weeks. Personally, having seen him perform in Spain, I’d only be taking that bet against the middling to lower placed clubs. Costa can be stopped but it will take Premier League defenders a while to work out how. He could have a good start to the season.
